Acne-prone skin and cold weather? Not a great combination. That’s why face oils are my go-to for locking in moisture after my nightly skincare routine — even as someone with acne-prone skin.
I have been using facial oils for the past year now, but I found myself having to change things up this winter due to the weather conditions and my skin’s needs. With recent breakouts, I decided to try Herbivore’s Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil, a facial oil that’s specifically formulated for acne and blemish-prone skin.
The Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil is billed as “a skin-soothing face oil that balances congested complexions while visibly smoothing and softening to a glowing finish.” According to the brand, it’s safe for use on acne and blemishes, as well as red or irritated skin.
Key ingredients include skin-calming blue tansy oil, vegan squalene for hydration, and kukui nut oil for balancing sebum production. The end result is a lightweight serum that soothes the skin while giving a glowy finish.
With my current breakouts and congested skin, I liked how the oil felt on my skin. It is super light yet effective for soothing the breakouts while keeping skin soft. It’s perfect for finding that balance on your skin when it is breaking out, and still needs hydration. And although it is blue in colour, it does not make your skin look blue whatsoever.
What I’m not a fan of is the price which ranges from $64 for a 30 mL bottle to $94 for the full 50 mL size, I can see why people are fans of this facial oil.
Here’s what others are saying
The Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil has earned more than 59,000 likes and a 4.3 star rating from Sephora customers. Shoppers who struggle with oily and combination skin found this to be very lightweight and raved about how soft it makes their skin feel afterwards.
One shopper gave the product a five-star review and stated they “noticed a difference the next day after using this once.” They also felt their “skin is so much more balanced and SOFT and just looks better overall” Although it is pricey and “hurts the bank account but it’s worth it.”
Another shopper who gave the product a five-star review said, “I was always on the fence about buying this because of the price tag. But now I’m regretting not buying it earlier…My skin is CLEAR for the first time in my life.”
While many shoppers loved the feel and results, some people did not like the smell. Testing it with a patch test on your hand is an easy way to ensure you are not allergic, or irritated by any of the oil’s fragrances.
“This is a decent oil and it worked fine with my skin,” stated a three-star review. “It has a distinct sweet/floral/chemical smell that I can’t stand. I can’t really describe it, I just know that I don’t like it.”
Personally, I found that the Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil worked great on my skin, and I loved everything about it except the price. It is an expensive product, so perhaps try a sample of it first before investing in the full thing.
I would always use it at night after my skincare routine and my skin looked clear the next morning as I continued to use it daily.
